Santorini Wedding #1

We had heard many enchanting accounts about the Greek Islands, so we were excited when we heard that my niece´s wedding was to be held on the island of Santorini in 2008.

Now, I am sure I can hear you say that this testimonial is being dreamed up by a doting aunt - not so. I had not seen my niece since she was a little girl of about nine, so I was very pleasantly pleased when we found she had grown into an extremely attractive, resourceful and knowledgeable young woman. She managed, very ably, to organise the flights and accommodation for every single relative travelling out from Ireland and the UK - about 56 in all -and supplied us all with very useful information as to places to dine and visit.

The real piece de resistance was the actual wedding day which took place at an hotel in a magnificent setting. We did not know the name of the hotel because every detail had been arranged from the picking up of the guests by car and coach to the ceremony which took place at sunset, a delicious three course meal, followed by music and entertainment, including fireworks, and the safe dropping off of all the guests in the early hours of the morning.

In the days following the wedding, Annissa also arranged outings by coach to various places around the island for those of us who were interested.

I have every confidence in wholeheartedly recommending my niece if you should need a planner for your wedding or special occasion on Santorini. She will provide you with a service which will ensure a memorable day.

Santorini Wedding #2

We stayed in Kamari which is a beautiful beach resort with exquisite scenery, plenty of restaurants, bars, shops and water activities. The people were very friendly and interacted with the tourists which made one feel very welcome.

The wedding was held in Imerovigli on the other side of the island in a beautiful hotel. On arrival at the hotel, the view absolutely took our breaths away – this I will never forget. The wide expanse of sea dotted with other smaller islands and the start of the most magnificent sunset one could ever imagine. The venue was absolutely ideal as it was on the top of the hotel thereby taking in the full extent of the magnificent view. The seating and decoration of the outdoor dining area looked amazing as we arrived and definitely had the whole WOW factor in fact that word was uttered aloud by many guests. The beautiful outdoor ceremony and the pink champagne reception afterwards was totally in keeping with this surreal experience. The food was amazing both in choice and taste and the waiting staff were so friendly that I could find no fault whatsoever with the whole experience. As the sun went down there were little pleasure cruisers on the water and as these passed their lights created an almost magical scene which enhanced the ambience even more.

Later in the evening when the sun had totally disappeared off the horizon, we were treated to the most amazing fireworks display with the magnificent ocean as a backdrop. The whole event was something I will never forget – just thinking about it never fails to lift my spirits as I realize that I was part of this wonderful, never to be forgotten experience.

Santorini Wedding #3

My family travelled to Santorini for my sisters Wedding in 2008. It was an exciting and emotional time for us all.I'd never visited the Greek island before so I had been looking forward to the trip for months. On that sunny day we all put on our finest and walked to the pick up point to be transported to the hotel. The bus-driver wound his way carefully through the windy streets and up steep inclines. We all looked out the windows "oohing and aahing"at the sights as we went by. We got to the drop off point and wondered what was happening as we were still on a narrow road a little away from the hotelbut immediately on getting off the bus we knew why we stopped there. The view from that point was simply stunningand everyone pulled out cameras straight-off to take pictures. It was such an amazing view that a couple of us had to remind others that we had a wedding to go to ! We all walked the short distance to the hotel, which looked amazing sitting there on the hillside overlooking those beautiful sea views. We were greeted by staff and made our way up the stairs to the function area. The terrace was decorated to the highest standard and everyone was admiring the hotel and its panoramic views. I'll never forget watching my Sister and her soon-to-be husband getting married as the sun was setting. After the ceremony pink champagne was served to all the guests and pictures were taken by the photographer. He couldn't have a better back-drop for his photos ! We then sat down to our dinner and drinks. It was such a nice experience to be surrounded by all our closest friends and family in that location. The food was delicious and then it was on to a night of drinking, dancing and enjoying ourselves. When you got tired you could go and sit in one of the comfortable lounging areas overlooking the views and chat. The bar staff were friendly and efficient and the music was great. At the end to top it all off there was a fire-works display. All in all it was a great night that I will never forget.

Our Wedding story

4th Sept 2008

We had a group of sixty people coming for the wedding from Ireland,
England and Australia, out of this we had 4 children under 12 and 3 babies under 2 years.
Everyone was staying for the week so we opted to stay in the beach resort of
Kamari. This beachfront location was more suitable for families and larger
groups with plenty of good hotels, restaurants, shops and bars to choose
from. This area offers very reasonable prices for accommodation, food &
drink .The group stayed in several different hotels all serving their own needs.

With regards the planner I worked with they looked after all the legal paperwork,
booking the date, translations, flowers & photography as it was included in the package.
I had been going through them for a different ceremony site & reception venue, transport and
entertainment also, but in the end the prices were way over our budget.
So I decided to have a look for other options available to us sourcing other venues
and services myself, but still keeping a good relationship with the planner.

So after finding these other service providers I booked directly with them
saving myself some money, that I could then spend on other features I
wanted for the wedding .I dealt with Achilleas one of the managers at the Santorini
Princess hotel & I can honestly say it would not have been such a success without
all his help, advice and patience whilst planning the big day.

The night before the wedding we had an area reserved in The Love Boat bar
in Kamari for the group, we had a fantastic night/early morning of drinks
dancing & singing ! We also loved The Hook bar which was one of our
favourite spots.

On the day of the wedding I had a room booked at The Santorini Princess hotel
(the one closest to the wedding area for my big entrance ) which was ideal as I
was at the location all day to see that preparations were going well & I
was also away from my future husband ! I enjoyed a glass of champagne from the hotel
as I had my hair done and got ready at my own pace, all while looking out at the
breathtaking views. In the meantime my husband had got ready at our hotel
in Kamari, we had hired a luxury car ourselves so he had transport for
himself and the groomsmen.

Our guests met at the football pitch in Kamari for the bus after having a
drink in one of the local bars to be transported to the wedding. Once they
arrived at the hotel it was the first time they had seen the views so they
were all blown away by it all reaching for their cameras instantly !

At this stage the nerves set in, the photographer came down to tell me
everyone was ready, my future husband was waiting. So as the music started
and the sun was starting to set I made my grand entrance with my
flowergirl, bridesmaids and Father by my side. It was everything I had dreamed
of and more.

The celebrant was wearing a dashing white suit (like he had come down from
heaven) afterwards I joked saying he was better dressed than my new
husband ! The ceremony is done in Greek & English and can take up to 30+
mins. You read the vows from a book, I had seen the vows beforehand to
familiarise myself with them. After the ceremony we cracked open the pink
champagne
for celebrations and photos commenced quickly for about an hour
before the sun fully set.

The dj started at 8.30, we had given a list of preferred songs to him
which was no problem. We had to have a buffet meal over the size of our
party which was perfect, we had pre-ordered a number of bottles of wine
for the tables also. We had a fantastic selection on the menu, vegetarians
and childrens meals were catered for also. We had a three tier wedding cake
that was supplied by the hotel. Then to top the evening off we had a
fireworks display. The guests still talk of the night and holiday to this day.

I had 3 mini buses waiting from 1.00 am. incase families with children
wished to return back to Kamari early, but no one left until 2.00 - 3.30
am ! The mini buses took groups back at a time and most of them went to
The Hook bar where the party continued until the early hours of the morning.
We enjoyed our first night as a married couple in the hotel and woke up to
those magnificent views.

The following evening I organised an evening trip to Fira, most of us went
along who weren't too sick from the night before ! Some of the younger
people stayed on to sample the nightlife of course. On the last evening in
Santorini we went on a sunset boatrip for those who wanted to come, this
was a fantastic evening and a perfect end to the holiday.Throughout the week
some of the group hired quads forexploring the Island, some went scuba diving,
some visited the wineries you have so much to choose from & there is something
for everyone. I loved our visit to Ammoundi Bay ! It is spectacular with crystal clear water.

Sadly we had come to the end of our holiday and it was time to come home
with promises that we would all go back again some day. Whenever I am feeling
down I just think of the time we had in Santorini.
Everyones day will be different but you can be sure it will the most memorable day
of your life being on this enchanting Island for such a special occasion.

Maxine & Jon 2010

 BEST WEDDING! weddings-in-santorini.com

If you are looking to get married in Santorini but have some trepidations about the complications involved, let me put your mind at rest and highly recommend Weddings-in-Santorini. They are an extremely friendly, efficient company who really go that extra mile to make sure the Bride (and Groom!) have the perfect day that she has always dreamed of.

Myself and my wife recently got married on the beautiful island of Santorini and used Weddings in Santorini to book everything, from the wedding venue to the bouquet. Michael and Elena are always on hand to answer any queries (of which we had many!) you may have regarding legal papers, transport, flowers, etc, etc. All of our e-mails we're always answered within 24 hours, even on a Sunday!

We had our Wedding ceremony at Santo Winery during the sunset which has breathtaking views and held our Wedding reception at the Almira Tavern (see separate report) in Kamari which helped us celebrate our Wedding in style. We hired Greek musicians/dancers who we're called Jannis Chassiotis . They played some great traditional Greek songs and made sure everyone got up and involved in the dancing which really helped to finish off what was an immensely enjoyable occasion for us and all of our guests.

It is very reassuring to know that the people you are dealing with are so efficient and have everything covered as it can seem worrying at first that you have put your dreams into someone else's hands who are so far away, but believe me these guys we're great and everything went without a hitch for us. We really could not recommend Weddings in Santorini highly enough.

Feel free to email with a question. Also see our reviews for hotels and reception restaurant we used on the island:

Tara Foley 4th Sept 2010

Some Kind Words From A Happy Bride , Thanks Tara it means a lot and I loved every minute of helping you x

I first met Annissa on Trip Advisor two years ago, when I had just begun planning my wedding.  We got married on Santorini in Sept 2010 and without her help and advice I would be paying unbelievable prices through my wedding planner and be an emotional wreck today, actually to be quite honest I could have quite happily cancelled the whole thing if it was'nt for Annissa.  I had no idea where to start and my husband to be was'nt very interested in helping.  Annissa outlined everything that I would need for the big day, gave me a fantastic location "Santorini Princess Hotel" and was there for me with a reply everytime I sent her an email with silly questions, which trust me was quite often, the stress and panic associated with planning a wedding, even if it is just for 30 people, is unbelievable.  When I look back at it right now and see other people organising their weddings, I do kind of miss it, Annissa said to me a number of times, that the day would fly and I probably wouldnt remember a thing, but you were wrong Annissa, I remember every minute of my wedding day and it would'nt have happened without you.

I had also booked a wedding planner based in Santorini, because everyone says your meant to have a wedding planner.  That is not totally true!  Getting closer to the day, I found that she communicated very little with me, which did nothing to reassure me at all.  I was constantly emailing her and getting no replies.  I eventually decided to do the organising myself and leave the paperwork and Videography to the planner.  Annissa supplied me with contacts for Hair & Makeup, DJ, Flowers and Bakery.  I simply contacted them and they responded and because Annissa had already been in contact with them on previous occasions, they provided what I needed with care, the utmost attention and an appropriate price.

Three days before the wedding I arrived on Santorini, we took a day of a leisure as you do and the next day was spent driving around the island to find our hotel, meet with the DJ and find the bakery.  Looking back now, I think it was a great way to see the island in an every day kind of way.  The bakery smelled fantastic, the DJ had a lovely happy personalilty and the hotel and staff were amazing, I can happily say, that finding all these things myself with the help of my friends and hungover husband to be put a bit more meaning into everything I had been doing for the past two years.

Finally, everything was arranged and the wedding day had arrived.  Annissa said that on the morning of your wedding day, ring around and confirm everything is in place.  Unfortunately, I didnt do this as I had only just talked to people a few days before.  Trust me, listen to Annissa, Do it for your peace of mind, listen to her advice.   All I could think of on my way up the aisle was " has the cake arrived yet" .
